Camping and caravanning is becoming a common activity among people who are on road trips. There are even state government initiatives to promote caravan tourism. We have seen several videos of people in modified vehicles camping in the outdoors. There are several workshops and garages in different parts of the country that excell at making caravans and prepare off-road vehicles. Here we have a video of a Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara SUV with a rooftop tent camping on snow. This is probably India’s first Grand Vitara to get such a modification.

Vlogger is in his current generation Mahindra Thar and his friend is driving the all-new Grand Vitara SUV. Maruti launched the all-new Grand Vitara in the market few months ago. It was jointly developed with Toyota and a detailed first drive review of the same is available on our website and YouTube channel. This is Maruti’s flagship SUV and it is Maruti’s only SUV in the country to get the AllGrip AWD feature. We are not sure, if the Grand Vitara seen here in the video is the AWD version or not.

In this video, vlogger is travelling to a less explored part of Manali in Himachal Pradesh. As winters have already arrived, many places are covered with snow and they wanted to camp on snow. The group travels through Manali city and crosses the Atal Tunnel to the other side. They then turn to the road that goes to Leh. After driving on that road, they stopped at a locals house and he told the group that the tempreature in the region drops to -12 degree celsius at night and if they go near a river, it would be around -20 degree celsius at night.
They collected firewood and then drove the vehicles to the site where they had decided to camp at night. The Grand Vitara looks stock on the outside. It gets the stock alloy wheels and there are no cosmetic changes too. The tent is mounted on the roof of the SUV and it can easily accommodate 2-3 adults. It is a flding tent that can be easily mounted on the roof of a vehicle. These types of roof actually help occupants stay away from snow and provide warmth in extreme cold situations. The tent looks neatly and is mounted on the roof of the Grand Vitara properly.
Maruti Grand Vitara is available with two petrol engine options. There is a 1.5 litre naturally aspirated version that is available with a 5-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic gearbox. This is the mild hybrid version and the manual version of this variant is available with AWD feature. The next is the strong hybrid version. This is powered by a 1.5 litre, three cylinder petrol engine along with an electric motor. It is available with an e-CVT gearbox only and has a claimed mileage of around 28 kmpl.
