2023 is just around the corner and we are awaiting the launches of multiple new cars. However, in their attempts to keep the previously launched cars as fresh as they can companies are also gearing up to launch a few facelifts as well. Some brands have also announced some additional features for their existing cars to make them more appealing. Two such automakers that are sibling brands – Volkswagen and Skoda have also announced the same for their vehicles.
The German and Czech automakers have announced that their vehicles which are based on the MQB A0 IN underpinnings will receive a few feature upgrades for the MY2023. The vehicles will be the sedans Slavia and Virtus, as well as the small SUVs Kushaq and Taigun. The 2023 model year cars will come equipped with electronic seat adjustment and footwell illumination as standard across the board for all four of these vehicles. Additionally the Skoda Kushaq will also come with a new color option – Lava Blue.
According to reports, the vehicles won’t undergo any mechanical modifications and will keep using the same lineup of engines and gearbox choices for its entry-level SUV and mid-size sedan models. A 1.5-liter, 4-cylinder TSI that produces 148 BHP and 250 Nm and a 1.0-liter, 3-cylinder TSI that produces 113 BHP and 178 Nm are two examples of these. A 6-speed automatic transmission is an option for the 1.0L engine, while a 6-speed manual transmission is standard. There is a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission for the 1.5L engine.

In other Volkswagen Skoda vehicle news, the Skoda Kushaq and the Volkswagen Taigun both received 5-star safety ratings from Global N-CAP. Both cars have obtained the rating in accordance with Global NCAP’s updated crash test guidelines. The most recent Global NCAP crash test methods evaluated each testing model’s front and side impact protection.
Both compact SUVs received 42 out of a possible 49 points for kid safety and 29.64 out of a possible 34 for adult safety protection. Both vehicles come equipped with front airbags and ESC as standard, which contributed to their top scores. Both cars provided adequate head and neck protection for the driver and passenger, according to Global NCAP.
Both the driver’s and the passenger’s chests displayed acceptable and good protection, respectively. The knees of the driver and passenger displayed decent protection. The tibias of the driver exhibited just marginally acceptable protection, while those of the passenger showed considerable protection.
The footwell area received a steady rating. The bodyshell was given a stable rating and can sustain additional loads. Head, abdomen, and pelvis were well protected from side impacts, while chest protection was just fair. Side pole impact: curtain airbags are able to be fitted and, in a version with side head protection airbags, a pole impact test revealed strong protection for the head and pelvis, sufficient protection for the abdomen, and moderate protection for the chest. The model with two airbags was utilised for the frontal accident, whereas the top-of-the-line model with six airbags was used for the side pole crash.
