7-seater Toyota Corolla Cross launching in India: To take on Hyundai Alcazar, Tata Safari, MG Hector Plus

Toyota has suddenly started working on its Indian portfolio and bringing in new cars. Starting with the new Urban Cross Hyryder to the latest Innova HyCross, Toyota is adding new models every now and then. Now Toyota is working to bring in the seven-seater Toyota Corolla Cross to India. It will take on the likes of the Hyundai Alcazar and might even challenge the likes of the Jeep Meridian and Hyundai Tucson.

While the international markets get the Toyota Corolla Cross already, the Japanese brand will cook a different recipe for the Indian market. The Toyota Corolla Cross takes on the likes of the Hyundai Creta in the international markets but the Indian market will get a longer variant of the same according to information by ACI.

The Corolla Cross gets the same platform as the Innova Hycross. This will make things quite interesting for Toyota India as it can share a lot of components between the two cars and can even use the same powertrains. In fact, both cars can be built on the same assembly lines.

The TNGA-C platform that underpins the Innova Hycross gets a wheelbase of 2,850mm. However, Toyota will work on it to bring it down. The international spec Corolla Cros gets a wheelbase of 2,640mm so we can expect the 7-seater version for the Indian market to get a wheelbase of about 2,800mm. Toyota has been missing from the three-row SUV in this segment. Since the price of the Innova and the newly launched Innova Hycross now starts at a very high point, this will allow the brand to bring in a new product and offer a more affordable 7-seater.

Toyota may offer a long list of features with the Corolla Cross seven-seater including features like an electrically operated tailgate, flat floor like the Hycross and more. Since it will be a proper three-row vehicle, Toyota is likely to do certain changes to the car including offering larger rear doors for easy access to the second and third-row seats.

The new Corolla Cross 7-seater may come with a few changes that will make it look different from the original vehicle. This might include changes to the soft parts like the plastic bumper, grille and headlights.

Internationally, the Corolla Cross is sold with a 1.8-litre petrol engine. However, in India, we can expect the same powertrains that are available with the Innova HyCross. We can expect the 2.0-litre M20A-FKS petrol and 2.0-litre M20A-FXS hybrid with the Corolla Cross seven-seater. There will not be any diesel engine option.
