Maruti Suzuki Fronx compact crossover to be launched in mid-April

Maruti Suzuki will launch two mcuh-awaited cars this year – the Fronx and the Jimny. The brand showcased the new Fronx at the 2023 Auto Expo and will launch the car by mid April. The new Fronx will be sold through Maruti Suzuki’s Nexa dealership network and is based on the Baleno hatchback.

The all-new Fronx’s front end seems to have drawn heavy inspiration from the all-new Grand Vitara, which is currently available in the Indian market. Nonetheless, the vehicle’s silhouette clearly exhibits the Baleno’s features. The front end of the Fronx boasts a wide chrome strip that runs across its large grille. According to Maruti Suzuki, the Fronx’s aerodynamic design features an upright front and rear fascia.

Both the Fronx and Baleno share several features such as the ORVMs. The wheel arches of both vehicles are squared off, creating a muscular and robust look. The Fronx, however, provides a much larger ground clearance than the Baleno, although Maruti Suzuki is yet to announce its official ground clearance. This feature ensures that the Fronx is capable of traversing any terrain.

At the rear, the all-new Fronx boasts LED tail lamps, along with a connected lightbar, while faux bumper guards adorn both the front and rear. Maruti Suzuki has strived to give the Fronx a muscular and brawny appearance, and it has succeeded in doing so. The vehicle will only be available for sale through Nexa’s premium dealerships.

Cabin heavily inspired by Baleno

Inside the all-new Fronx, the cabin boasts a dual-tone theme, featuring a steering wheel, an infotainment system, and an instrument cluster that are similar to those found in the Baleno. The vehicle also includes several features, such as a wireless car charger and faux leather upholstery. The 9.0-inch free floating SmartPlay infotainment system comes with connectivity options such as Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

In addition, the Fronx comes equipped with an automatic climate control system, as well as steering-mounted controls and six airbags, just like those found in the Baleno. In fact, the majority of the features found in the Fronx are similar to those offered in the Baleno hatchback.

Maruti Suzuki plans to offer both a 1.0-litre Boosterjet and a 1.2-litre K-Series petrol engine with the Fronx. The 1.0-litre Boosterjet is a turbo-petrol engine that is making a comeback to the Indian market after it was discontinued in the Baleno RS. It can generate a maximum power of 100.06 PS at 5,500 rpm and a peak torque of 147.6 Nm.

The naturally-aspirated 1.2-litre K-Series engine, on the other hand, can produce a maximum power of 89.73 PS and a peak torque of 113 Nm. Maruti Suzuki will offer a choice between a 5-speed manual transmission and a 6-speed automatic transmission, which comes with paddle shifters.
