The German automotive giant, Volkswagen India, launched its subcompact SUV, the Taigun, back in September 2021, and ever since then, the car has proved to be a breadwinner for the brand. However, after being out for around 1.5 years, the car is now due for a mid-life update. In recent months, the facelifted iteration of this popular SUV has been spotted testing in international markets for a while now with camouflage, but recently, a fully undisguised test mule was seen in the wild. The newest spy shots give us a clear view of what’s about to come with the updated Volkswagen Taigun.
The latest set of spy pictures has been shared by Carwale, and it has been reported that the test mule was spotted testing in Brazil. From the first spy shot of the forthcoming Volkswagen Taigun, we can note that the SUV will receive a revised front fascia. It will get an updated grille and a brand-new set of LED headlamps, which will be a lot sleeker than the ones in the outgoing car. These headlamps will also house the sleek LED DRLs as well. The front bumper will also be heavily revised, and it will house the fog lamps on both ends. Some silver garnishes can also be seen in the spy shots along with a little chrome on the grilles.

Next up, on the side profile, we can note that not much has changed, and it looks pretty much identical to the outgoing model. The test mule was seen with the same roof rails and black claddings. The only thing different about this test mule was that it was wearing a set of five-spoke alloy wheels, which were finished in silver. However, it is believed that the company will launch the model in India with diamond-cut alloy wheels.
Moving on to the rear of the spied mule, it can be noted that the signature connected LED taillamps are still present; however, this time around, they have been tweaked a little. Additionally, the rear bumper has also been revised in this test mule. Eagle-eyed viewers would notice that the badge on the rear says T-Cross. Well, that is because the model in Brazil is marketed as T-Cross, but when it goes on sale in India, it will become Taigun.
It is believed that the forthcoming model will be powered by the same petrol engines currently offered with the outgoing car. Recently, the company gave an update to both of the Taigun’s powertrains with RDE compliance. As mentioned, the Taigun is offered with two petrol engines. The smaller 1.0-litre three-cylinder TSI petrol engine, which makes 115 PS of power and 175 Nm of torque, is available with a 6-speed manual and 6-speed torque converter in both offerings. Meanwhile, there is also a 1.5-litre four-cylinder TSI petrol engine on offer in both cars. The engine produces 150 PS of power and 250 Nm of torque and is offered with a 7-speed DCT gearbox as standard.
