Mahindra Scorpio-N Pick-Up to be revealed on 15th August

Following its recent tradition of unveiling something on the 15th of August each year, Mahindra has confirmed that it will showcase a new pickup concept on Indian Independence Day. The visual teaser of the Global Pik Up Vision has been released by Mahindra on its social media handles, indicating that it will be a concept pickup vehicle based on the Mahindra Scorpio-N.

The teaser offers hints of the front grille and rear profile of the mysterious pickup vehicle, suggesting its association with the Scorpio-N. The grille design features Mahindra’s twin-peaks logo, while glimpses of the rear profile showcase the design highlights of the LED tail lamps and deck lid. The teaser also provides a glimpse of the alloy wheel design and the chunky tyres it will come equipped with.

Codenamed Z121, the Mahindra Global Pik Up Vision is said to be based on the same platform as the Scorpio-N. This vehicle will differ significantly from the Scorpio Getaway, just as the Scorpio-N does from the Scorpio Classic. The current version of the Mahindra Scorpio Getaway, sold in Australia as the Mahindra Pik Up, features a longer wheelbase than the Scorpio Classic.

While the Indian market previously had the previous-generation Mahindra Scorpio Getaway on sale, the arrival of the Scorpio Classic resulted in the cessation of Scorpio Getaway sales. Subsequently, Mahindra introduced a refreshed version of the Scorpio Getaway, based on the former, which was then made available in global markets like Australia and South Africa.

Expected to arrive in 2025

The production version of the new Mahindra Global Pik Up Vision is expected to arrive by early 2025, likely featuring a double-cab body style with a tray back bed, similar to the Scorpio Getaway. The powertrain options in this new pickup will be shared with the Scorpio-N, including a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine and a 2.2-litre diesel engine. It remains to be seen how many comfort and convenience features from the Scorpio-N will be retained in the Mahindra Global Pik Up Vision production model. However, the visual teaser confirms the concept vehicle’s single-pane sunroof.

Upon its launch in 2025, the production-spec version of the Mahindra Global Pik Up Vision will present a durable and affordable alternative to heavyweights in the pickup segment, such as the Isuzu V-Cross and Toyota Hilux. But at a time when the pick-ups in India are not gaining any traction and Toyota is offering massive discounts to move its products out of the showroom, we are not sure how successful the new pick-up will be in India. However, as said above, Mahindra also serves in Australia and South Africa where the new model might become a hit product.
