The Volkswagen Taigun and Skoda Kushaq have achieved the distinction of being the first-ever cars to undergo testing under the new and stricter protocols of Global NCAP, solidifying their position as the safest cars in the country. A recent high-speed accident vividly demonstrates how the Volkswagen Taigun effectively safeguarded its occupants.

The video footage captures the aftermath of the high-speed collision involving the Volkswagen Taigun. According to the video, the Taigun collided with a tree at a speed estimated to be between 80 and 90 km/h. The exact circumstances leading to the crash remain uncertain. It’s possible that the vehicle lost control, resulting in the collision with the tree.

The impact of the crash caused significant damage to the front end of the Taigun. The video also provides a glimpse inside the Taigun’s cabin. Apart from the deployed airbags, there are no discernible signs of damage or impact within the cabin. The doors open smoothly, and even the footwell area appears to be in impeccable condition.
Fortunately, the occupants of the Taigun emerged from the accident unharmed, without sustaining any injuries. The cabin’s structural integrity remained intact. Regrettably, there is no available information detailing the exact circumstances leading up to the accident.
Volkswagen Taigun and Skoda Kushaq are the safest cars
Global NCAP has announced that both the all-new Skoda Kushaq and the Volkswagen Taigun have achieved a 5-star safety rating. This recognition comes under the new crash test protocols introduced by Global NCAP. These two vehicles share the same platform, MQB A0 IN, which was specially designed for the Indian market and other developing countries.
The revised crash test protocols of Global NCAP evaluate the front and side impact protection for all models tested. Additionally, vehicles equipped with Electronic Stability Control (ESC), pedestrian protection, and side impact pole protection assessments are eligible for a full five-star rating.
Both the Skoda Kushaq and Volkswagen Taigun are pioneering models built on the MQB A0 IN platform. This platform is tailored for the Indian market and is a derivation of the MQB A0 platform that serves as the foundation for numerous cars in international markets. While the platform was adapted to suit the cost-efficiency demands of developing markets like India, the recent Global NCAP crash tests validate that safety standards remain on par with their European counterparts.
It’s important to note that the Skoda Kushaq and Volkswagen Taigun are essentially identical vehicles, manufactured in the same factory on the same assembly line. The MQB A0 IN platform also underpins other models like the Skoda Slavia and the Volkswagen Virtus sedans in the Indian market.
