Tata Motors is gearing up for the launch of the Altroz Racer in the market. Tata has been testing this new sportier version of the premium hatchback for some time. Tata has also released several teaser images and videos of this upcoming model. Tata has now released a new teaser video where we get to hear the exhaust note of the Altroz Racer.
The video has been shared by Tata Motors on their official YouTube channel. In this video, we get a glimpse of the upcoming hatchback. The video shows a blacked-out bonnet and roof with white racing stripes. The side profile of the car is also seen here. However, we do not see the alloy wheels. From the previous teaser image, we know that the design of the wheels is likely to be the same as the regular Altroz.
It remains to be seen whether the wheels will get a black treatment or a gunmetal grey finish. The electric sunroof of the Altroz Racer can also be seen here. We also get to hear the exhaust note of the upcoming hatchback in this video. The exhaust note doesn’t sound too sporty. It is not as loud as an aftermarket setup but does sound a bit sporty in this video. There is a possibility that the audio was enhanced for this particular video too.
Other details we see in this video are the interiors, including a glimpse of the new floating-type touchscreen infotainment system. We also see orange accents inside the cabin. In addition, Tata is expected to offer an all-black theme cabin with racing stripes on the seats. We would also see orange or red inserts in different parts of the cabin. The car is likely to get features like ventilated seats.
We also expect features like a 360-degree camera and HUD with the Altroz Racer. Tata is offering the regular Altroz with two petrol and one diesel engine option. One of the petrol engines is turbocharged and is sold under the iTurbo badge.
The Altroz Racer, which will be launched in the market next month, will use the same 1.2-liter, three-cylinder, turbocharged petrol engine. This is the same engine used in the iTurbo variant; however, it would be offered in a different state of tune.
This engine will generate 120 PS and 170 Nm of peak torque. This engine will be offered with a 6-speed manual gearbox only. Tata is also offering a DCA transmission with the regular petrol engine. However, it remains to be seen if a proper automatic or the DCA option will be offered with the Altroz Racer.
The Tata Altroz will compete with the likes of the Hyundai i20 N Line. Tata has launched sportier versions of regular hatchbacks and sedans in the past. We had the Tiago JTP and Tigor JTP offered in the market for a short span of time.
They were once the most affordable performance hatchbacks one could buy in India. However, due to various reasons, they did not sell well and had to be discontinued. We expect Tata to price the Altroz Racer aggressively to ensure better sales.
