Exterior Comparison

XUV 3XO

Let’s start off with the exterior design of the newly launched Mahindra XUV 3XO AX7L variant. Mahindra Automotive has completely redesigned the front and rear end of this SUV. The XUV 3XO, which is based on the outgoing XUV 300, features a much more modern and aggressive styling.

At the front, the XUV 3XO gets a gloss black grille with the new twin peaks logo. It also gets six tilted chrome slats and a set of newly designed LED headlights. It gets a two vertically stacked projector light setup with C-shaped LED DRLs. The front bumper also looks very aggressive and gets LED front fog lamps, front parking sensors.

The side profile has been kept the same as before but now gets new 17-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels. It also gets new connected LED taillights in the rear. Overall, it looks good from the rear, but the front-end design is a bit polarizing.

Nexon

The Tata Nexon Fearless Dark Edition, on the other hand, gets a much more familiar and loved front fascia. It comes equipped with a split headlamp design where the top portion is covered by LED DRLs. Meanwhile, the lower bumper houses the vertically stacked LED headlights. It also gets an aggressive front bumper as well. And its is Dark Edition avatar it looks a lot more menacing.

On the sides, the SUV retains the silhouette of the previous-generation model. However, it now gets a set of new 16-inch turbine-style alloy wheels. The SUV also comes equipped with a very bold and sharp rear-end design.

Its main highlight is the connected LED taillight. It also gets a much more pronounced silver skid plate as well. Overall, according to our opinion, the Nexon looks a lot better than the Mahindra XUV 3XO.

Verdict

The Tata Nexon wins the battle of exterior design in our opinion. This is because the Nexon looks like a neater, cleaner, consistent design compared to the XUV 3XO. When we list out the specific design details, the XUV 3XO comes out ahead but the entire design still does not look as classy as that of the facelifted Tata Nexon.

Now, remember that beauty is in the beholder’s eye – and you may actually prefer the looks of the XUV 3XO and that is perfectly fine.

Interior Design and Features

XUV 3XO

Mahindra 3XO interior

Coming to the interior design, the XUV 3XO has been thoroughly updated to make it feel more premium. It gets an ivory color interior with a lot of soft-touch materials on the door pad and dashboard. The dashboard of the AX7L variant is dominated by a massive 10.25-inch screen.

Just below the infotainment screen are air vents and its dual-zone climate control system. The Mahindra XUV 3XO has become the first sub-compact SUV in its segment to come with dual-zone climate control and a panoramic sunroof.

Speaking of segment-first features, it also comes equipped with ADAS Level 2. Other features of the XUV 3XO include a premium Harman Kardon sound system, 65W USB-C fast charging, a digital instrument gauge cluster, a 360-degree camera, and a blind-view monitor.

The XUV 3XO also offers Electronic Stability Control (ESC) with hill hold control and hill descent control. The Mahindra XUV 3XO also comes standard with 6 airbags and 4 disc brakes. It gets 3-point seat belts and seat-belt reminders for all seats along with ISO-FIX child seats.

Nexon

Tata Nexon Dark Edition interior

Tata has also given the Nexon facelift a very modern and sophisticated dashboard layout. Its design is much more minimalistic than the XUV 3XO and looks sleeker. It is also dominated by a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system.

The SUV also gets cleaner and simpler air conditioning vents and touch-based HVAC controls with two physical toggle switches. There is also a 10.25-inch digital instrument gauge cluster on the top-spec Fearless Dark edition variant.

The Nexon also comes equipped with a nine-speaker setup and ventilated front seats. In addition to these, the car also offers an air purifier, ambient lighting, a wireless charger, cruise control, rain-sensing wipers, a 360-degree camera, a blind-spot monitor, and six airbags.

Verdict

We think here its 50:50. No winner. Design-wise, they are evenly matched. But space and interior is higher for the XUV 3XO due to its higher width. And this might make a difference for many. 3 passengers in the rear seat would be more comfortable than in the Nexon’s rear seat.

Powertrain Details

XUV 3XO

Mahindra has not changed anything under the bonnet of the XUV 3XO. It will still come offered with the same 1.2-liter turbo-petrol unit producing 110 PS & 200 Nm. (This engine is not offered on the top-spec AX7L variant).

The AX7L variant comes offered with a 1.5-liter diesel engine delivering 117 PS & 300 Nm. The other option is a more powerful 1.2-liter TGDi turbo-petrol engine producing 130 PS and 250 Nm of torque. All three engine options come standard with a 6-speed manual.

As for the other transmission options, the diesel engine can be opted with a 6-speed AMT. Meanwhile, the petrol engine can be paired with 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox.

Nexon

2024 Tata Nexon

The Nexon also, like its previous-generation model, gets the same two powertrain options. The first is a 1.2-liter turbocharged petrol engine. This engine produces 118 bhp and 170 Nm of torque. The other option is a 1.5-liter diesel engine. This engine produces 113 bhp and 260 Nm of torque.

In terms of transmission, both engines come with manual and automated manual transmissions (AMT). On the other hand, the turbo-petrol variant also gets an optional 7-speed dual-clutch automatic. The dual-clutch automatic transmission also gets paddle shifters.

Verdict

In terms of outright power, the XUV 3XO wins. Even before the facelift, the XUV300 as it was called then was a better driver’s car than the Nexon. The XUV 3XO continues to be the benchmark in terms of driving pleasure in the sub-4 meter compact SUV segment.

Pricing Details

The Mahindra XUV 3XO has been launched with a price tag of Rs 7.49 lakh for the MX1 variant. From there, it goes up to Rs 15.49 lakh for the AX7L variant. There are a total of 9 variants on offer.

On the other hand, the Tata Nexon starts at a higher base price of Rs 8.15 lakh for the Smart variant. Meanwhile, it goes up to Rs 15.79 lakh for the Fearless Dark Edition model. There are a total of 11 variants available with the Nexon.

Verdict

A lower starting price for the base variant makes the XUV 3XO the winner in pricing. The base variant of the 3XO has more features than the Nexon’s base variant, and current Nexon base variant owners might be feeling buyer’s remorse at this moment!
